Construction programme

The proposed wind farm, if consented, would take approximately nine months to construct. During this time numbers of personnel and traffic movements will vary according to the activity being undertaken.

A typical wind farm construction programme would be as follows:

  • Install the site accommodation and compound;
  • Construct/upgrade the site entrance;
  • Upgrade existing access tracks and construct new access tracks and crane hardstanding areas;
  • Excavate the wind turbine foundation areas and construct the turbine bases;
  • Excavate cable trenches and lay the power and communication cables;
  • Install the electrical equipment;
  • Erect and commission the wind turbines;
  • Erect the monitoring mast; and
  • Carry out reinstatement works and clear the site.
It is normal practice to undertake a number of tasks in parallel to minimise the construction period.
